Westminster Real Estate

Presbyterian Reverend, Lemuel P. Webber, in 1870 bought and paid for 6,000 acres that was previously par to the Spanish land grants in. He invited families from the east to settle giving them 40 acres a piece. The production of creameries became famous throughout Orange County and Westminster Real Estate was thriving well into the 1900´s. As the Santa Fe and Southern Pacific Railroad made travel far more convenient, settlers came by the hundreds to settle on the rich land of California. While dairy farming was still the principal source of income, Chinese were brought in from Los Angeles and San Francisco to farm the rich soil.Sugar beets and celery soon were being shipped all over the country.

There was a devastating earthquake in 1933 that destroyed much for the buildings in Westminster. The community was not to be broken down and they soon came together and rebuilt the area. The population in 1956 was 10,755 as tract homes were just beginning to take rise in the area. By the 1960´s the population had quadrupled and the freeway systems connected Westminster to the Southland Freeway system.

The 1980´s found the Southeast Asian refugees fleeing there homeland to avoid the conflict and opening up over 500 business´ in Westminster adding to the commercial base and becoming somewhat of a tourist attraction.

Westminster was home to the last Drive-In movie theater which was built in 1955 and was just recently torn down to make way for Walmart.

Coastline Community College now serves the community at its satellite campus located by the Westminster Rose Center, Westminster School District  schools are some of the most diverse in the county of Orange.There are 16 schools in the district.  which includes a 411 seat theater and convention/banquet center for community events and programs. The Westminster Rose Center, Coastline College  Educational buildings and Sid Goldstein Freedom Park joined the Civic Center City Buildings, Senior Center, the Orange County Courthouse, and the Orange County Library  to create a focal point for Westminster that provide services for the residents of the community.

Residential and commercial growth continues to grow as the assessed valuation has reached $5,186,876,215 and a population in 2005 that is 92,000 and growing.

Westminster Mall  is now part of the Simon Corporation and has hundreds of unique stores to chose from. You can see there hours of operation and a map for directions at there website.

Little Saigon borders Westminster Blvd., Bolsa Avenue, Magnolia Street, and Euclid Street. The three square miles has the most Vietnamese people outside of Vietnam.The area offers over 3,500 Vietnamese owned businesses. On the weekends, busloads of tourists come to sample food and shop for bargains. The Asian Garden Mall (pictured)is just one of the exceptional beautifully designed locales in Westminster.
