Historic Fountain Valley was previously known as Talbert after James T. Talbert who owned a great deal of farm land in the area. To this day you will see streets, parks and schools named after the Talbert Family.The water table was high in the city. They say you could poke a stick in the ground and water would flow.Then there was a drought in the early 1870´s that dried up the land enough to start the community on an upward climb in population! They finally incorporated in the spring of 1957 and became the 21st city in Orange County. When the 405 Freeway split the city down the middle it caught the eye of many developers.The city is cozy and community oriented.As of 2003, according to the city itself, there were 56,200 people, living and working in Fountain Valley.Fountain Valley´s biggest employer is the Fountain Valley Regional Hospital and Medical Center. They employ over 1700 people. Fountain Valley is also home to Community College employing over 650 people. Residents take great pride in the landscape of the city with many trees and shrubbery along the streets and paths.The city is 64% made up of Caucasian with Asian population taking up the next biggest percentage at 25%. Native American, African American, Hispanic or Latino making up the remaining percent. In the last census of 2000 the median household income was $69,734.One of the main sources of entertainment outdoors is the 64 acre Mile Square Regional Park.This park is fantastic with two lakes, tennis, basketball courts both indoor and outdoor, 18 hold gold course and a brand new Senior Center that opened in 2005.They also have a new Kingston Boys and Girls Club. As of the Spring, 2006 there are plenty of homes available for sale. The average home price is presently $650,000 for single family resident. The job growth in the city is causing buyers to move up to a bigger home and leaves the time a home is on the market about 60 days.
